Departmental Summary:
Stats & Analysis is a sports data production team that produces world-class data and insights that ensures fans trust ESPN for depth and perspective. Stats & Analysis is ESPN’s sports data provider and operates nearly 24/7 from ESPN’s campus in Bristol, CT. Staff is scheduled to cover a wide-ranging sports calendar, so full availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays is essential. S&A is a part of ESPN’s Digital Experiences & Engagement team that produces dynamic content experiences that connect, inform and entertain sports fans.
Position Summary:
As a Stats Analyst II at ESPN, you will be an integral part of our Stats & Analysis Team. This entry-level role is perfect for a sports fan with a curious mind and a willingness to learn, as you will be accountable for providing accurate, timely, and insightful sports data to ESPN platforms worldwide. Working in a dynamic and technology-motivated production environment, you will work together with world-class talent to deliver game-changing ideas and extraordinary experiences for sports fans. Your role is crucial in maintaining the confidence and engagement of our audience by providing accurate and insightful sports data that powers critical fan-facing experiences and provides the foundation for ESPN’s best-in-class sports research and insights.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and insightfulness of sports data distributed by Stats & Analysis.
- Work together with peers and part-time employees to deliver real-time play-by-play, clock-and-score, and other statistics.
- Verify the results of your work and that of others, maintaining high attention to detail and urgency.
- Contribute to production, projects, and initiatives across the newsroom.
- Anticipate potential problems and offer solutions, communicating quickly and confidently with colleagues.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Stats & Analysis’ role in powering ESPN digital products and TV productions.
- Propose new or more efficient ways statistics can be utilized in ESPN storytelling and products.
- Actively participate in team and department meetings.
- Stay informed of current department policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Broad knowledge of sports statistics, current events, and scorekeeping rules.
- Experience producing and/or using data to create content executions, examine trends, or gain insights.
- Proven ability to achieve a high degree of accuracy in time-delicate or pressurized situations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.
- Basic proficiency with data management tools like Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years’ experience in a sports data and information-focused role in media, team sports (pro/college), or other sports industry field.
- Experience working with data feeds, data warehouses, and custom software tools.
- Knowledge of uses and trends in sports data insights, including player tracking data.
- Working knowledge of ESPN products and productions.
Required Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education:
College degree or equivalent

Position works nights (almost exclusively), weekends, and holidays.
