How will you contribute to our magical experience?
Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology
Technology is at the heart of Disney’s past, present, and future. Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, data scientists, and more – all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney’s media business globally.
The team marries technology with creativity to build world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive velocity, innovation, and scalability for our businesses. We are Storytellers and Innovators. Creators and Builders. Entertainers and Engineers. We work with every part of The Walt Disney Company’s media portfolio to advance the technological foundation and consumer media touch points serving millions of people around the world.
Here are a few reasons why we think you’d love working here:
Building the future of Disney’s media: Our Technologists are designing and building the products and platforms that will power our media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.
Reach, Scale & Impact: More than ever, Disney’s technology and products serve as a signature doorway for fans' connections with the company’s brands and stories. Disney+. Hulu. ESPN. ABC. ABC News…and many more. These products and brands – and the unmatched stories, storytellers, and events they carry – matter to millions of people globally.
Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms, and solve complex and distinctive technical problems.
Content Platforms & Operations is responsible for the development and ongoing advancement of the technical and operational functions driving the worldwide distribution and monetization of Disney’s linear networks and theatrical content. This includes Disney’s media supply chain and storage, network and theatrical distribution operations, media localization, network transmission and origination, and more. The global team also plays a critical role as the primary collaboration point for Product & Technology with Disney’s EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regional business teams.
As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the backend services and APIs that power Disney's media supply chain — the systems responsible for delivering some of the most-watched entertainment and sports content in the world across Disney+, ESPN, Hulu, ABC, Marvel, and National Geographic.
You will work as part of a collaborative engineering team to design, develop, test, and deploy features within our existing distributed systems. You'll take ownership of stories and tasks, implement solutions with guidance from senior engineers, and contribute to the quality and reliability of our platform. You'll participate in code reviews, on-call rotations, and agile ceremonies while building your expertise across our technology stack.
The ideal candidate is a motivated engineer with a few years of professional experience who is eager to deepen their skills, contribute meaningfully to production systems, and grow within a supportive team environment. You should be comfortable working independently on well-defined tasks while knowing when to ask questions and collaborate with teammates.
The Software Engineer will be responsible for:
- Develop, test, and deploy application code across backend services and APIs.
- Implement features and fix bugs within existing systems, working from defined requirements with some guidance from senior engineers.
- Participate in code reviews — both giving and receiving feedback to maintain code quality.
- Contribute to the reliability and performance of production systems, including participation in on-call rotations.
- Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
- Help maintain and improve documentation, processes, and development workflows.
- Begin mentoring less experienced engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and helping with onboarding.
- Contribute to automation, testing, and observability improvements across the team's services.
What we need from you to be part of this story:
- 2-3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Advanced English level.
- Experience developing backend services and APIs using Java, Spring Framework, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and distributed systems concepts.
- Knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and software development best practices (testing, code reviews, CI/CD).
- Experience with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) and version control systems (Git).
- Exposure to containerization and deployment tools (e.g., Docker, CI/CD pipelines).
- Experience working in collaborative Agile environments.
- Nice to have: exposure to event-driven architectures, observability tools, or digital media/content platforms.
