Job Summary:

The Manager, Learning Design and Development oversees the entire design and development process setting strategic direction for the Instructional Design team and implementing performance solutions for all client areas. They will monitor Leaders’ ongoing performance, provide feedback, coaching and career development, identify any performance gaps and determine appropriate solutions if needed. The Manager, Learning Design and Development will consult with client areas to analyze and understand performance concerns, determine if a learning solution is needed, and provide outcomes that drive performance improvements for teams, business units and individuals. The Manager, Learning Design and Development will direct all design and development projects internally and with vendors, adhering to scope and budget for multiple projects simultaneously. They will also evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, provide recommendations for improvement, develop evaluation procedures and summarize evaluation results.

You will:

  • Oversee the entire design and development process setting strategic direction for the Instructional Design team and implementing performance solutions for all client areas.
  • Lead with flexible, inspirational leadership and realistic optimism to create an engaging climate, empowering a diverse team of Cast Members in a rapidly, ever changing environment.
  • Monitor Leaders’ ongoing performance, provide feedback, coaching and career development, identify any performance gaps and determine appropriate solutions if needed.
  • Consult with client areas to analyze and understand performance concerns, determine if a learning solution is needed, and provide outcomes that drive performance improvements for teams, business units and individuals.
  • Collaborate with business partners and subject matter experts to design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning solutions.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships and build credibility with team members, partners, support teams, and vendors as the liaison for design and development.
  • Develop and drive multiple project plans simultaneously, identify appropriate team members, assign and drive task completion, schedule and host meetings, and oversee the completion of project goals within an established timeline.
  • Direct all design and development projects internally and with vendors, adhering to scope and budget throughout project.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, provide recommendations for improvement, develop evaluation procedures and summarize evaluation results.
  • Curate, publish, and maintain a library of content and gathering information on a variety of topics to meet the needs of a client or address an identified gap.
  • Facilitate training programs locally and in international/domestic locations for audiences at all levels of the organization within client areas using a variety of facilitation techniques and methods.
  • Manage diverse responsibilities with the ability to shift priorities and complete a multitude of tasks in a rapidly, ever changing environment.
  • Drive the implementation of strategic goals and objectives by driving and communicating a clear and concise vision.
  • Maintain a high-level of knowledge of human performance improvement.
  • Proactively apply critical thinking skills to make strategic decisions, perform time-sensitive actions, mitigate risk in projects, partner with key support areas, as needed, and ensure the Cast, Guest and Business are considered in all decisions made.
  • Provide clear, concise and consistent communication on the business’ direction and lead change.
  • Leverage multiple software applications to effectively research, support, and manage a team.
  • Adapt quickly to leadership direction and feedback.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of integrity.
  • Some travel may be required to international and domestic locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You will have:

  • Proven knowledge and experience of human performance improvement and learning and development methodologies.
  • Proven learning and development consulting experience with clients.
  • Proven ability to conduct effective learning needs analysis to determine the correct learning solution, if needed.
  • Ability to lead, provide coaching and feedback to Leaders, including monitoring performance, analyzing gaps and identifying solutions.
  • Proven ability to effectively set and drive an effective design and development strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating technical and soft skills training in a variety of applications such as computer based training, facilitator-led training, blended learning, self-study, and job aids.
  • Demonstrated strong project management and delegations skills.
  • Proven ability to conduct effective learning needs analysis to determine the correct performance solution, if needed.
  • Clearly communicate key information to Cast Members at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing with proven experience in developing and facilitating presentations.
  • Process-centric thinking, strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to recognize process improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure while handling multiple priorities, use problem solving methodology for decision making and follow up.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills with an ability to effectively analyze the situation, offer creative solutions, and follow-up as needed.
  • Strong partnering, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to lead and thrive in a dynamic, ever-changing environment and maintain a professional composure and demonstrate good judgement while handling a multitude of tasks and difficult situations.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to work in multiple software applications.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes independent action to hold self and Leaders accountable to meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of supported client areas.
  • Ability to execute strategy, with proven experience tactically implementing new initiatives.
  • Ability to research and analyze key metrics to maximize business efficiencies.
  • Ability to brainstorm and effectively share thoughtful opinions that take a learning experience from good to great.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including evenings, weekends, variable shifts and holidays and travel as needed.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience in Human Resources Management, Instructional Design & Curriculum Development, Consulting, Training and Curriculum Development, Facilitation or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of cruise industry, the Disney Cruise Line, National Geographic Expeditions, and Adventures by Disney Products.
  • Proven knowledge of and experience working with innovative learning methodologies.
  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools, learning management systems (D Learn), and the Learning Content Repository (LCR).
  • Master’s Degree or formal certification/education/experience in performance consulting, applying ADDIE or related learning models, adult development theory, or curriculum development desired.
  • Bilingual, Multilingual.
