We are looking for a seasoned public relations professional to manage communications strategy for these two world-renowned brands offering premium travel experiences around the globe. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, strong writer and big thinker with an extreme attention to detail. They should be passionate about meaningful travel and eager to proactively generate new ideas to tell our story. They thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, possess strong project management and media relations skills, and are well-suited for a role that requires international travel.
This position reports to the Senior Manager of Public Relations for Adventures by Disney | National Geographic Expeditions.
What You Will Do
- Maintain relationships with key journalists, pitching and shaping stories that highlight business priorities, generate buzz and drive business results
- Lead editorial strategy: writing and managing press releases, fact sheets, key messages, executive quotes, video scripts, blog editorial and social copy
- Research and respond to media inquiries about the businesses and foster media relationships
- Develop PR campaigns and strategies
- Manage and accurately track budgets for each line of business
- Ideate and execute various PR programs, including product announcements, stunts, media events and more
- Create concepts and lead productions for photo and video content, both editorial and creative
- Project manage, pitch and host media familiarization trips
Required Qualifications & Skills
The Basics
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in communications and public relations
- Demonstrated knowledge of public relations, publicity or media relations
- Excellent knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines
- Proven understanding of the Adventures by Disney and National Geographic Expeditions products and the tour operator / tourism industry
- Visual storyteller with an understanding of design aesthetics
- Able to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment, often after hours and on weekends
- Ability to travel internationally for projects and work remotely
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to identify challenges and offer solutions
Writing:
- Extensive experience writing press releases, fact sheets, biographies, blog posts and more
- Demonstrated experience meeting quick deadlines and handling comprehensive writing projects with minimal editing
Earned and Owned:
- Deep knowledge of the earned-media landscape
- Experience working with media, including digital, broadcast and print
- Demonstrated track record of placing and shaping stories
- Understanding of social media platforms, concepts and strategy
Creative Content:
- Experience concepting and producing editorial and creative photo/video content: b-roll, VNRs, SMTs, hyperlapses, explainer videos, serial content, etc.
Project Management:
- Proven project management and reporting skills
- Proven budget management skills
Business Acumen:
- Must have strong writing background and proficiency
- Confident communicator and presenter
- Proven experience in multi-tasking and working effectively under pressure
- Able to develop and share creative, innovative ideas
- Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to work
- Proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate
- Extreme attention to detail
- Must possess excellent networking, partnering and organizational skills
- Able to work comfortably with Cast Members and executives at all levels
- Able to work in an environment that promotes and celebrates diversity and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within the tour operations / tourism industry
- Experience leading social campaigns for platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
- Proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite or other design apps
- Strong familiarity with international travel is a plus
Education
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field
