The primary role of the Content Planning & Analysis (CP&A) team is to provide analytical strategy support for content valuation and investment decisions for Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming services (Disney+ and Hulu). The team works cross-functionally across Disney Entertainment segment finance teams, direct-to-consumer strategy, data analytics, research, operations, marketing, and programming to translate DTC streaming data into financial decisions regarding the production and licensing of shows and films. The team works closely with senior leadership to provide strategic insights and help inform critical business decisions for the streaming and content businesses.
Job Summary:
The Analyst, Content Planning & Analysis will be responsible for analytically evaluating investment and performance of the content on the various Disney streaming platforms (Disney+, Hulu) and across multiple distribution windows. This role will work on projects involving different content categories/genres and portfolio level analyses, content engagement, third party licensing deal valuations, distribution and windowing decisions, and executive-level reporting for senior leaders. The role will also contribute to the development and application of analytical methodologies and KPI tracking for evaluating the performance of content.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
Analyze content portfolio performance using R, SQL, and Excel, with a focus on portfolio health, performance benchmarks, and content economics to support strategic decision making.
Maintain, update, and curate key content metadata datasets (e.g., attributes, categorization, rights information) to ensure completeness, accuracy, and usability across reporting and analytical systems.
Develop and support content economics frameworks and financial models that inform content valuation and portfolio optimization, incorporating key revenue, cost, and margin dynamics.
Produce portfolio-level reporting and insights that synthesize financial, engagement, and strategic metrics into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
- 4-year degree in relevant fields (e.g., Statistics, Finance, Economics, Data Science, Business) with strong academic performance.
- 1+ years of work experience preferably in finance/strategy roles at media/technology companies, or other quantitative fields (internship experience acceptable).
- Proficiency in R, SQL, and Excel for data analysis, transformation, and modeling.
- Familiarity with intermediate statistical concepts and analysis techniques.
- High aptitude and enthusiasm for complex problem solving and financial modeling.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to produce executive-ready presentations in PowerPoint.
- High EQ, professional maturity, and ability to engage with senior stakeholders.
- Motivated, disciplined, flexible, and able to work effectively in collaborative and autonomous environments.
- Demonstrated interest in the entertainment and/or tech industries.
Preferred:
- Experience in media/entertainment or technology industries.
- Proven track record of automating recurring analytical or reporting processes.
- Experience with Python, Tableau, Databricks, or other data analytics tools is a plus.
The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is 95,600 to $116,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
