Job Summary:

Disney Entertainment (DE) is one of the three major business segments of The Walt Disney Company, consisting of Disney's entertainment media and content businesses, including its motion picture film studios, television networks and studios, direct-to-consumer streaming services, and international businesses.  

The primary role of the Content Planning & Analysis (CP&A) team is to provide analytical strategy support for content valuation and investment decisions for Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming services (Disney+ and Hulu). The team works cross-functionally across Disney Entertainment segment finance, direct-to-consumer strategy, data analytics, research, operations, marketing, content partnerships and programming/creative teams to translate DTC streaming data into financial decisions regarding the production and licensing of shows and films. The team works closely with senior leadership to provide strategic insights and help inform critical business decisions for the streaming and content businesses. 

Job Summary: 

​​The Senior Analyst, Content Planning & Analysis will be responsible for analytically evaluating investment and performance of the content on the various Disney Streaming platforms (Disney+, Hulu) and across multiple distribution windows. This role will work on projects involving different content categories/genres and portfolio level analyses, content engagement, third party licensing deal valuations, distribution and windowing decisions, and executive-level reporting for senior leaders. The role will also contribute to the development and application of analytical methodologies and KPI tracking for evaluating the performance of content. This position requires a blend of strategic/financial competencies (financial modeling, organized summaries, deck-building, articulating narratives to stakeholders, etc.), data analytical skills (has both strong Excel and R/SQL proficiencies), attention to detail, and a passion for TV and film. ​ 

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role: 

Create and assemble portfolio level content analyses, models, summaries, data visualizations, and decks using Excel and other data analytical/visualization tools such as R and SQL that create compelling presentations on
1) performance of programming initiatives (including first-party and third-party content across various windows) and content trends in major markets; 
2) benchmark portfolio performance metrics against investment targets; and
3) synthesize insights and recommendations for leadership on content strategy 

Perform title-level deal valuation modeling/analyses and 3P Content performance reports to support content acquisition deals for US and international territories, and seek new ways to further optimize valuation approaches and improving ROI on the acquisitions  

Maintain, update, curate, and automate key content metadata datasets (e.g., attributes, categorization, rights information) to ensure completeness, accuracy, and usability across reporting and analytical systems by leveraging internal databases and advanced data/AI tools 

Develop and support content economics frameworks and financial models that inform content valuation, portfolio optimization, and content strategy by incorporating key revenue, cost, and margin dynamics. 
 

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training: 

  • ​​4 year degree in relevant fields (e.g., Statistics, Finance, Economics, Data Science, Business) with strong academic performance. 
  • ​3+ years of work experience preferably in analytical/finance/strategy roles or other quantitative fields (internship experience acceptable). 
  • ​Proficiency in R, SQL, and Excel for data analysis, transformation, and modeling. 
  • ​Comfortable working on multiple workstreams concurrently and can effectively prioritize, communicate progress to project teams, maintain quality of work, and meet deadlines.  
  • ​High aptitude, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for complex problem solving and financial modeling  
  • ​Brings new perspectives on processes and analytical approaches with the ability to lead small projects with minimal guidance  
  • ​Strong data and strategic storytelling skills including the ability to produce executive-ready presentations and communicate complex analyses to a variety of leaders and stakeholders (e.g. financial, strategic and/or creative leadership)   
  • ​High EQ, professional maturity, and ability to engage with senior stakeholders with developed opinions 
  • ​Motivated, proactive, disciplined, flexible, with an enthusiastic/optimistic attitude  
  • ​Collaborative, coachable team-player that is willing to receive and give guidance from/to peers and new members respectively 
  • ​Familiarity with basic-to-intermediate statistical concepts and analysis techniques. 
  • ​Demonstrated interest in the entertainment and/or tech industries.

​Preferred: 

  • ​Proven track record of automating recurring analytical or reporting processes. 
  • ​Experience with Python, Tableau, Databricks, or other data analytics tools is a plus.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, California is $126,800.00 - $154,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
