Job Summary:

The Storybook Artist is responsible for creating line art and full-color illustrated panels that depict key scenes and moments from episodes. These Storybooks can be utilized for focus testing with audiences during the pre-production process. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the production team to create full color, engaging storybook illustrations that depict key scenes and moments from episodes, from thumbnail sketches through delivery of finished illustrations. 

  • Use a strong understanding of staging, composition, color design and character design to bring scenes to life while adhering to the vision and style of the show. 

  • Address notes from production leadership, including Executive Producers and Supervising Directors. 

  • Complete all deliverables on time and according to production schedule and within guidelines/show parameters such as number of illustrations, complexity requirements, etc. 

  • Submit work that appropriately aligns with production and workflow guidelines and requirements (i.e., naming conventions and storage) 

  • Additional duties as necessary, or as defined by individual contracts 

 

Qualifications 

  • 2+ years of experience and/or training in a similar role 

  • Proficiency with digital illustration software and hardware including Cintiq and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator). 

  • A strong portfolio that showcases an ability to create engaging, colorful illustrations 

  • Knowledge and experience with television animation production pipeline a plus 

  • Experience in children's media, illustration or animation is a plus 

 

Skills 

  • Ability to draw characters and environments that align with the style and sensibility of show 

  • Excellent understanding of art fundamentals including staging, composition, color theory, and character design 

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage your time effectively 

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work well in a team 

 

Education 

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience

The pay rate for this role in California is $53.16 to $59.20 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
