About the Role & Team:

The Assistant Technical Designer for Softlines apparel at Disney is a pivotal role that supports the Technical Design Manager or Senior Manager in developing and managing the technical aspects of apparel design. This position involves creating full production tech packs, ensuring garment specifications, and maintaining brand consistency. The role is essential in ensuring the quality and accuracy of Disney's apparel products, contributing to the overall success of the brand.

The Assistant Technical Designer will be responsible for managing the day-to-day technical design tasks, supporting overall department processes, and ensuring the consistency and quality of garment fit and construction. This role requires a strong understanding of garment assembly, pattern drafting, and fit correction. The Assistant Technical Designer will work closely with cross-functional teams, overseas agents, and factories to deliver high-quality products. This role is crucial for maintaining Disney's high standards and brand consistency.

The Assistant Technical Designer role is a Full-Time role and reports to the Technical Design Manager.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and create full production tech packs for Softlines global styles.
  • Confirm correctness of designer’s sketches against technical garment construction of style.
  • Sketch flat detail sketches and correct sketches using Adobe Illustrator (CAD).
  • Evaluate and prepare samples prior to fitting.
  • Review factory provided patterns and graded nests.
  • Write and communicate fit comments/corrections to maintain established turn times.
  • Facilitate fit sessions with cross-functional teams on live models and dress forms.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, overseas agents, and factories to deliver quality products.
  • Maintain brand consistency in fit, make, and quality.
  • Manage email communication and meet deadlines daily, weekly, seasonally, quarterly, and annually.
  • Attend departmental and team meetings and provide recaps as necessary.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in softlines technical design, with emphasis on adult apparel.  
  • Strong understanding of patternmaking, fit correction, and grading
  • Knowledge of garment assembly/construction and pattern drafting and corrections.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Highly organized, able to multi-task, and possess excellent time management skills
  • Computer/technology literate, including MS Office and Adobe Illustrator
  • Able to lift 35 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

It would be great if you also have: 

  • Experience creating and managing tech packs in PLM (FlexPLM)
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, Optitex, or Gerber Accumark 2D digital pattern making
  • Experience with 3D fitting software (CLO, Browzwear, Optitex)
  • Experience in menswear or womenswear and/or extended sizing

Education: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in fashion/apparel design or technical design, or equivalent and relevant experience
