This is a project-driven, seasonal/casual temporary position. With high skills/proficiency in various design software, the Associate CAD Designer creates a variety of complex drawing solutions through the translation of art concepts into complex CAD design drawings, 3d Visualizations, and drawing bid packages, as part of a technical production team. Design projects include, but are not limited to, facility applications, show/event venue designs, as well as other designs supporting the creation of live show entertainment products. 

The Associate CAD Designer (CT) will report to the Manager - CAD Design.

This is a Casual Temporary or Seasonal role with no guarantee of weekly working hours, as hours will fluctuate based on business needs. 

What You Will Do

  • Deliver the design intent through the effective execution of the creative process 

  • Support the entire design team with a mechanical approach and schematic design to realize their vision 

  • Develop and maintain drafting standards for Walt Disney Entertainment in coordination with other Walt Disney Company business units 

  • Generate and modify all types of computer drafting and imaging (ground plans, detail drawings, etc.), graphics, and 3D views of Walt Disney World properties using Autodesk Revit

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD 2d and 3d, 3ds Max, SolidWorks, or other 3d modeling/drafting software 

  • Stay current with computer graphics visualization software and technology to support design and drafting within the industry 

  • Develop and/or provide input to project budgets 

  • Provide conceptual design support to Directors, Producers, and Designers 

  • Support the presentation process by developing appropriate visual materials, researching project design materials 

  • Maintain up-to-date show documentation, electronic archiving of Entertainment Design CAD information, files of Walt Disney Company, and participant logos and reference art library/art lab 

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working in show development and operation of live shows, drafting schematics, floor plans, three-dimensional images 

  • Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of Computer Aided Design 

  • Excellent working knowledge of current technology and industry standards for a wide variety of theatrical design (audio, video, broadcast, effects, lighting, and control systems, scenery, and facilities construction methodology) as applied to live show and facility systems (theatrical, industrial, concert, touring, etc.) 

  • Excellent understanding of the design development process 

  • Proven ability to generate schematic design documentation in a fast-paced environment 

  • Proven ability to support the creative process by collaborating with other Designers, Directors, Writers, and Producers 

  • Proven ability to deliver on a project’s established scope, schedule, and budget 

  • Excellent verbal and visual communication skills with the ability to express creative ideas and problem solve 

  • General computer skills, including basic Microsoft Office products and industry-specific software 

  • Ability to work flexible hours - nights, weekends, holidays - including occasional travel 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computer animation and video production experience 

  • 3 years of experience working with Disney Live Entertainment

  • Unreal Engine/VR previsualization experience 

  • Required Education 

  • College degree or equivalent experience in Theatrical, Architectural, or Mechanical Engineering discipline 

Education

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Theatrical, Architectural, or Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred

The hiring range for this position in Kissimmee, FL is $49,800 to $66,800 per year based on a 24 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
