With an in-depth understanding of audio design and the ability to realize through the effective execution of the creative process, our Manager of Audio Systems Design serves as the creative leader and representative for the entire department.

This is a full-time role reporting to the Manager of Technical Production.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement Audio Systems designs for live shows and facility infrastructure
  • Participate in a Project’s creative development and production phases
  • Provide direction, oversight, and input during Creative Reviews, Design Reviews, and other major milestones
  • Be an engaged leader in the research & development efforts for Audio systems
  • Responsible and accountable for the audio systems and quality of all of our Disney Live Entertainment productions
  • Help our designers to plan, prioritize, coordinate, brainstorm, problem-solve, budget, procure, install, and implement their design concept
  • Accountable for resource planning, staffing forecasting/projections, and estimating at both the department and project levels
  • Develop/maintain a pipeline of both internal and external Audio Design Talent
  • Function as mentor/coach for our department and the DLE organization
  • Actively engage in the creative development/professional growth of our designers and leaders
  • Assist with negotiations and act as our leader for contracted Audio Systems Designers and vendors ensuring Disney quality, compatibility, training, and accurate documentation of all audio services delivered
  • Define our new workflow strategies, technologies, and applications with responsibility for driving and implementing change
  • Maintain relationships with Executive Leadership on behalf of our Audio Department
  • Develop and maintain Industry connections, both functional and ceremonial
  • Serve as our primary contact for the Manager-Technical Production and the Entertainment Standards, Safety, Design Assurance and Experience Integration Teams

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 8+ years of proven experience in the Entertainment Industry working in audio systems design, media playback, programming, routing, show development, and operation of live shows
  • Outstanding understanding of current technology, theory, and industry standards for all aspects of audio systems design, as applied to live show and facility systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of audio distribution and routing systems, including advanced network setup, advanced signal flow, file management, and advanced audio programming methods
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in audio systems design practice and procedures including show design, live performer amplification, and audio control design
  • Demonstrated functional leadership ability, including problem-solving, influencing abilities, negotiating skills, and continuous improvement process experience
  • Ability to lead a creative team of proficient designers
  • Function as a working member of the design team with a natural inclination to generate ideas with great proficiency
  • Proven ability to initiate, coordinate, prioritize, take and provide direction, and complete multiple tasks on time
  • Ability to handle financial/accounting issues relative to area of responsibility
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation and public speaking skills are critical for leading, mentoring, and corresponding with all levels within the organization
  • Demonstrated critical ability to educate and influence Peer Management levels and Senior Leadership
  • Knowledge of our Walt Disney World Entertainment and industry standards
  • Willingness to travel to domestic and foreign venues if needed
  • Must have, or be willing to acquire a passport and corporate credit card for travel

Education

  • Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Technology and Design (MFA preferred), Audio Production or equivalent work experience
