With an in-depth understanding of design intent and the ability to realize through the effective execution of the creative process, the Sr. Audio Systems Designer is a creative leader (visionary) and representative (voice) for Disney Live Entertainment Audio Systems Design department at the Walt Disney World Resort. This role is responsible for directing all audio systems design, helping to prioritize, organize, and problem-solve during the entire course of a project.
This role will report to the Manager, Audio Systems Design.
This is a Casual/Temporary role and will be working an irregular and fluctuating schedule, based on business need, with no guarantee of weekly hours.
What You Will Do
Participate in a Project’s creative development and production phases, including blue-sky brainstorming, project kick-off, scope definition, feasibility, and budgetary ROMs
Provide oversight and input during Creative Reviews, Design Reviews, and at other major milestone checkpoints
Develop and/or execute Audio Designs for live shows and facility infrastructure, when required
Be an engaged leader of Audio R&D efforts, participating as necessary to interface with other Company technology divisions
Be responsible and accountable for the Audio cost and quality of all Disney Live Entertainment productions
Design / direct / oversee Audio Systems Design Projects as assigned – helping Designers to plan, prioritize, organize, brainstorm, problem solve, budget, procure, install, and execute their design concept throughout the entire course of a Project
Be responsible for resource planning, budgeting, and estimating at both the Department and Project levels
Function as mentor/coach for the design department, imparting past lessons learned, explaining Disney Best Practices, and actively engaging in the creative development/professional growth of Designers as Leaders
Responsible for oversight of contracted Audio Systems Designers and Vendors, ensuring Disney quality, compatibility, training, and proper documentation of all Audio services delivered
Manage all Departmental budgets, including overhead, operating expenses, and ESQ (Entertainment Show Quality)
Define new workflow strategies, technologies, and applications with responsibility for driving and implementing change
Present Project updates to varying levels of Leadership
Take ownership of risk on plan implementation for the Department and all associated Projects
Interact with the Project Team's Creative Leadership and External Business Leaders, Operational Clients, Partners and Key Stakeholders at a Leadership level regularly
Required Qualifications & Skills
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working in theatrical design, show development, and operation of live shows
Superior understanding of current technology and Industry standards for all aspects of Audio Systems Design (theatrical, industrial, concert, touring, etc.), as applied to live show and facility systems
Strong understanding of the creative process and the development of creative design
Superior knowledge of Audio Design theory and practice, especially as it applies to the creative process
Demonstrated extensive experience in Audio Design practice and procedures, including show design, fixture design, and audio control design
Demonstrated functional leadership ability, including problem-solving, influencing abilities, negotiating skills, and continuous improvement process experience
Strong ability to collaborate creatively, technically, and strategically on multidisciplinary requirements, including facility and system requirements, to result in the cohesive integration of specific discipline products into a venue
Proven ability to handle financial/accounting issues relative to area of responsibility
Ability to research and present design options so teams can make informed decisions that ultimately provide creative depth and result in a better product
Demonstrated ability to succinctly frame up risks/rewards as these relate to new ideas and technological endeavors, detailing the potential return on investment and the value new enhancements may bring to the overall guest experience
Ability to work flexible hours - nights, weekends, holidays
Preferred Qualifications
Significant experience in facility design, engineering and construction
Education
BA in Theater Technology and Design or equivalent work experience required
MFA in Theater Technology/Networking and/or Audio Design preferred
