Our mission as part of the Commercial Strategy organization is to put our data assets to work and apply quantitative techniques to discover previously unknown insights about our Guests and business. We get to work directly with the major decision-makers at Disney who shape the Walt Disney World experience. Our insights inform strategy, expose opportunities, and shape Disney products and offerings.
As an individual contributor, reporting to the Manager of Data Science, you will create analytics and modeling tools to support the Commercial organization, specializing in Tickets, Annual Passes, and Lightning Lane expedited access products. If selected for this role, you will report to the Data Science Manager. The approximate dates of this internship are January 2025 to June 2025. This is a full-time position, and interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship in Orlando, FL
What You Will Do
While each day will be different, with rotating priorities, the main themes for this role include you being a(n):
- Creator: Understand data and use data science skills to deliver mathematical models and ad-hoc statistical analyses.
- Translate business needs into data assets and query them using SQL
- Uncover insights, test hypotheses, identify the “why”, and tell a story
- Develop ad hoc analyses and sustained models
- Paint a picture with data using data visualization tools
- Collaborator: Team up with other data experts.
- Work with business partners to identify and unlock opportunities
- Automate workflows and analysis to ensure faster business decisions
- Work with other data teams to improve platform capabilities around data modeling, data visualization, experimentation, and data architecture
- Learner: Lean into your curiosity to understand business problems, data environments, and people.
- Explore existing and emerging analytical solutions, capabilities, and technologies and incorporate them into your work
- Partner with different teams and departments to understand the complex operation, and gain exposure to different areas of accountability, strategic priorities, and career experiences
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge of data science/advanced analytic concepts (e.g., hypothesis testing, regression, clustering)
- Experience with SQL databases and how to query and curate datasets
- Knowledge of industry leading data visualization tools like Tableau
- Introductory knowledge of Python and how to leverage it for machine learning applications
- Time-management skills, with ability to prioritize multiple requests and communicate status to partners/leadership
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills and ability to condense findings into clear takeaways
- Passionate about how to apply analytics and data to enabling business decisions
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with GitLab
- Experience developing presentations and reports using quantitative information for non-technical partners
Required Education
- Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student studying Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Economics or related field at an accredited college/university
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:
- At the time of application, be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
- Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
- Able to provide own housing and reliable transportation for work in the Orlando, FL area. Also requires a working, reliable internet connection as well as a quiet, dedicated workspace.
