About the Role & Team

Disney Conservation is part of Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment (ASE) and is seeking a Data Analytics and Visualization Project Hire to help deliver on our mission to Lead, Care, Connect and Conserve. Disney Conservation aims to inspire and engage our Cast and Guests in conservation efforts that save species in the wild, especially in areas of business priority. In this role, you will be responsible for helping to analyze, visualize, and report out on current and future data collection efforts to assess the impact of our work and quantify the biodiversity and ecosystem services relevant to the work of Disney Conservation.

You will represent Disney Conservation’s commitment with diverse audiences and stakeholders including executives, Guests, fellow Cast Members and employees, partners, and with the media. You will also maximize conservation integration across the team and enterprise, helping to grow the Disney Conservation brand, deliver business value, and advance our commitment to save wildlife, inspire action and protect the planet.

This is an estimated two-year Project Hire position without any guarantee of permanent placement. In this role, you will report to the Conservation Programs Manager.

What You Will Do

  • Advise on conservation and biodiversity initiatives and strategies with internal/external partners
  • Collaborate with the ASE Science team to ensure scientific credibility and advance applied conservation
  • Provide strategic oversight and impact evaluation for our conservation programs
  • Lead the scientific and programmatic development for quantification of biodiversity, ecosystem services, and ecological resilience
  • Conduct habitat connectivity analyses of Disney properties and surrounding areas to inform conservation and wildlife management
  • Evaluate and identify systems, tools, and platforms to process, analyze, and visualize data in the most effective, efficient, and state-of-the-art manner
  • Partner across the TWDC to maximize synergy opportunities that help advance our conservation efforts and drive business results and reputation
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Disney’s conservation commitment
  • Publish the results of our scientific, education, conservation investigations in various outlets, including internal recommendations, position papers, and peer-reviewed journals

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience conducting conservation and biodiversity data analytics and data visualization
  • Ability to work as a positive member of a team, strong interpersonal skills and strong communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, make decisions, and change course of action quickly if necessary
  • Experience with scientific writing publications
  • Strong experimental design and analytical skills, including planning and executing studies to address complex research questions
  • Experience with data governance and data stewardship practices to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with policies and regulations
  • Proven experience designing and managing geodatabases using tools such as ArcGIS Pro or creating and implementing relational databases with software like MySQL.
  • Experience with data quality assurance, including data cleaning, data profiling, and data validation techniques
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and managing goal-setting frameworks, such as OKRs or SMART goals, and establishing KPIs to measure progress towards deliverables
  • 1-3 years of experience with technology, coding languages, and software platforms relevant to the role, such as GIS, Motus networks, R, Python, SQL, or SAS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with scientific writing and publications, including at least one first author peer reviewed publication
  • Demonstrated media experience and presentation abilities
  • Experience with scientific writing and publications
  • Experience with the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation or Miradi Software
  • Experience with ecological consultation methods such as mitigation banking and development of ecological economics models to inform habitat and species management
  • Experience collaborating on international projects or with international stakeholders

Education

  • M.S. in Conservation, Field Ecology, biostatistics, or relevant field, or comparable professional experience

Preferred Education

  • PHD in conservation, field ecology, or similar field of study
