Kennel Technicians are an integral part of the Walt Disney World Security K9 team. Our Kennel Technicians maintain a safe and sanitary facility by providing humane handling and care for all canines, ensuring all canine nutrition, housing, and basic medical needs are met daily. As a technician, you will record and communicate canine health and behavioral issues, as well as provide administrative support such as answering phone calls and scheduling appointments.
This is a full-time hourly role that will report to the Canine Security Manager.
What You Will Do
- Examine and observe animals to check for possible signs of illnesses and injuries
- Collect and record canine information like weight, physical condition, and food intake
- Follow standard operating guidelines for the area regarding the safe and appropriate use of cleaning agents and procedures
- Clean and disinfect kennels, facilities, and training yards
- Maintain strict discretion and confidentiality
- Support the veterinary care provided by the WDW Veterinary provider
- Feed and hydrate animals in accordance with dietary needs, schedules, and special feeding instructions
- Exercise medium to large-sized high-energy canines
- Handle canines safely at all times, following specified guidelines
- Bending and lifting up to 90 lbs. to assist the canine into the vehicle, while keeping balanced when handling the canine
- Handle and restrain dogs safely for veterinary, medical, or grooming procedures that are performed
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 6+ months of animal handling experience with a professional agency or organization
- Hands-on kennel experience with detailed knowledge and experience in K9 needs and techniques in maintaining a safe kennel environment for both humans and animals
- Ability to gain animals’ confidence when restraining them for transport, grooming, and/or minor treatment
- Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including frequent walking, standing, and occasional running, sometimes on uneven surfaces, with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Proficiency in writing, social skills, and standard Microsoft Office software programs such as word processing and spreadsheets
- Must possess a Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of Walt Disney World property, resources, policies, and procedures
- 1+ year of experience in positions of growing responsibility within security, military police, law enforcement, canine handling, or related field
- Related memberships and certifications
Required Education
- High School Degree/equivalent or higher
