Job Summary:

As a Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the shows of Living with The Land boat ride and Behind the Seeds tour. You will lead all aspects of The Land integrated pest management (IPM) program to ensure show quality and develop new and effective pest management strategies. The Senior Scientist will work with the Plant Science team to propose new components for show improvement.

This is a Full Time position.

You will report to the Manager of Agricultural Sciences.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct research to gain new knowledge and improve IPM practices, such as developing worldwide collaboration, new product introduction and efficacy tests.
  • Conduct insect pest scouting and work with pest control team to develop effective pest management strategy. 
  • Conduct crop research, new crop introduction, trial, and evaluation
  • Develop crop growing methods and growing systems
  • Work with operation team in show designing, crop selection and management
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in Federal and State levels
  • Strong problem solving skills, including access to knowledge and expertise of entomological and horticultural sciences.
  • Engage in all aspects of daily operation such as Behind the Seeds Tour, festival content development, and all other novel development for show improvement.
  • Have a curiosity about working with food crops in greenhouses

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in Entomology / Horticulture with Masters degree or 3+ years of experience with PhD
  • A valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle under inclement weather, including minimal lighting
  • Can work in hot, humid greenhouses
  • Experience with greenhouse hydroponics operation and facility management

Required Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, Food Crops, Entomology, or related field

Preferred Education:

  • PhD in Entomology or Plant Science

The hiring range for this position in Florida is $83,000.00-$111,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
