The WDI Show Lighting Department provides lighting designs for all areas our guests see when they enter our parks. This includes lighting for attractions, retail spaces, restaurant spaces, display areas, landscape, facades, and area development. The staff of the Show Lighting Department interface and support other WDI divisions as well as departments within our parks including Creative, Architectural, Engineering, Show Art, Show Ride, Park Operations and Park Maintenance. Through the medium of light, it is the mission of the Show Lighting Department to create highly entertaining environments in which the magic of each Disney story is possible.

The is a temporary role with no guarantee of permanent placement.

What You Will Do:

  • The Senior Show Lighting Designer leads and supports the design implementation and lighting installation effort for the project interfacing and coordinating with other show related disciplines

  • The Senior Show Lighting Designer works independently as lead on multiple design projects

  • Create Show Lighting Design Estimates

  • Create Show Lighting work strategy

  • Develop Show Lighting database, schedule, dimmer panels, Show Lighting drawings

  • Direct in field implementation of Show Lighting design

  • Supervise additional resources as required

  • Work with supervisor in order to adhere to budget and schedule

  • Manage Change

  • Participate in department initiatives

  • Supervise teams during design and crews in the field.

  • Assignment of this individual may require management of people and process.

  • Travel, up to 50% of the time

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in architectural lighting for themed environments.

  • Experienced, professional lighting designer capable of producing designs which reflect both the theatrical and environmental nature of a WDI product

  • Working knowledge of theatrical design and technical knowledge of specific discipline, including methods of construction

  • Knowledge of architectural and facility requirements and integration of specific discipline products into an attraction

  • Current knowledge of new and developing technologies in field of expertise required

  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Able to work well independently and in groups

  • Takes ownership and accepts responsibility for all aspects of product as presented to  Disney’s guests

  • Ability to perform lighting calculations.

  • Advanced knowledge of fixed theatrical lighting fixtures and dimming equipment and electrical connections of same.

  • Advanced knowledge of moving lights, theatrical controls and control distribution including DMX and Ethernet.

  • Advanced knowledge of LED lighting systems including the design of power/data equipment to control LED lighting.

  • Familiarity with CAD software and drafting ability.

  • Familiarity with BIM software and Revit.

  • Ability to operate and work off lifts, ladders and catwalks at heights.

  • Appreciation and skill in the esthetic processes of lighting and lighting design.

  • Must be able to travel internationally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past Experience with Lighting Design for Cruise Ships

  • Knowledge of Lighting Previsualization Software

  • Ability to do lighting renderings

  • Knowledge of International Building Code, National Fire Protection Act 101 Criteria, and experience designing to meet code requirements.

Education:

  • BA or MFA preferred (Theater, Art, Design, Architecture) or equivalent work experience
