They’re all beloved experiences at Walt Disney World that rely on life safety systems. At Disney, safety is our top priority, and behind the scenes, an array of advanced systems quietly ensures the safety of our guests and cast members every day.
As a Staff Facilities Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and assuring the quality of critical systems like fire protection, smoke control, oxygen displacement monitoring, water quality, and overhead safety. The role is unique, not only because of the diversity of systems and projects but also because our engineers are involved as thought partners from the earliest stages of development and are empowered to take action on ongoing projects and maintenance.
This is a 24 month Project Hire role projected until October 2026.
The Staff Facilities Quality Engineer will report to Manager, Quality Engineering.
What You Will Do
On any given day, as a Staff Facilities Quality Engineer, you might:
- Expand and develop quality programs and accountabilities for a variety of facility assets that support amusement facilities and resorts. These include, but are not limited to, overhead safety, poles and free-standing structures, fall protection railings, balconies, character façades and rockwork, fire protection and smoke control systems, sensors and systems that monitor oxygen displacement, as well as swimming pools, playgrounds, and water quality at our resorts.
- Participate in periodic smoke control & emergency power testing and maintenance
- Apply Florida state and local codes for life safety systems
- Develop clear and consistent strategies for alternate means and methods to solve for conflicting requirements
- Serve as a thought partner to identify, understand, and mitigate risk
- Understand building automation and controls
- Review system designs including calculations, drawings, and submittals developed by project design teams for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Disney standards and guiding principles
- Develop requirements and processes and for periodic testing, critical equipment checks, inspections and maintenance procedures based on the design, manufacturers requirements, applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards to adequately mitigate any hazards and risks that have been identified
- Manage and partner with 3rd party contractors to help fulfill responsibilities
- Establish and follow a framework for identifying and recording the completion of all vital documentation, including drawings, manuals, and procedures, training, and certifications to permit and ensure the safe use of the systems by cast members and guests.
- Survey and review the consistency, accuracy and completeness of documents, procedures, and training, prior to commissioning and while in-use, communicating and addressing any discrepancies for corrective purposes
- Establish and maintain excellent relationships with Project Team, Operations, Engineering Services, Safety, and regulators (AHJ)
- Prioritize, balance, and lead numerous projects
- Provide field engineering support, including technical recommendations for inspection, testing, and maintenance
- Perform investigations including root cause and failure analysis
Required Qualifications & Skills
Here’s what you need to be successful at this job:
- Minimum 7 + years of experience in Engineering, showing increasing levels of responsibility
- In-depth knowledge of Building and Fire Codes and NFPA Codes and Standards
- Solid understanding of AutoCAD/Revit and MS Office
- Experience with design, installation and commissioning of complex systems that meet regulatory and industrial standards
- Experience with investigations, root cause analysis, and hazard assessments
- Proven strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex data relationship in concise and straight forward presentations
- Strong leadership and management skills to provide precise directions to achieve performance
- Ability to work after hours and off-shift hours as required
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
Preferred Qualifications
It would be great if you also have:
- Specific experience with theme parks, resort hotels, and mixed-use facilities
- Knowledgeable in OSHA compliance
- Previous Structural engineering experience
- Experience with codes and standards development, including committee involvement (e.g. NFPA, ASTM, ICC, CFR, etc.)
- Professional Engineer License (state of Florida)

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Preferred Education
Master’s Degree in Engineering or related field or MBA
