The Assistant Show Lighting Designer supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of show lighting for various attractions and facilities. This role works closely with lead designers to execute lighting concepts, conduct onsite tests, supervise focusing work, and maintain show lighting standards across the resort.
Responsibilities:
- Support lead designers in defining project lighting requirements and implementing show lighting designs.
- Assist with onsite lighting tests, mock-ups, presentations, and equipment focusing.
- Coordinate lighting installation and maintenance with Facility Services, Operations, and Attractions teams to ensure show quality.
- Compile information and prepare plans for lighting upgrades and rehabs for Integrated Facility Planning (IFP).
- Collaborate with other project disciplines to ensure creative and technical alignment.
- Conduct regular show reviews and document findings.
- Research lighting technologies and stay updated on industry developments.
- Assist in developing and delivering training related to show lighting design and maintenance.
- Support the maintenance of the show lighting database for all locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, BFA, or related field.
- 3 years of relevant professional experience; Disney or theme park experience preferred.
- Experience in at least 3 small to medium projects in entertainment or themed environments.
- Up-to-date knowledge of lighting technologies and related electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of CAD or similar electronic design software.
- Familiarity with theatrical documentation (focus charts, fixture schedules, dimmer/control schedules, etc.).
- Solid understanding of theatrical lighting principles (focus, color, texture, etc.).
- Basic to advanced knowledge of dimming systems, control systems, and LED/RGB configurations.
- Strong communication skills, motivated, and able to take direction well.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team and mentor interns.
- Be open to work on night shifts.
