The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for directing the technical delivery of assigned live entertainment shows, events, and projects. As the leading source of technical information and solutions, the TD ensures that all scenic and technical systems support the creative vision of the show and meet the high standards of The Walt Disney Company.
The Technical Director leads the design, development, and implementation of all technical elements by directing internal and external teams of experts across multiple disciplines. From time to time, the TD may also directly design and program technical systems within their area of expertise.
The Technical Director takes the lead in implementing the Design Assurance/Hazard Assessment process during production, ensuring that all show systems conform to statutory, industry, and Disney safety standards.
Job Responsibilities:
Direct technical development to align with creative designs, specifying equipment and ensuring seamless integration of audio, lighting, video, rigging, automation, show-action elements, and other technical disciplines.
Lead compliance efforts, ensuring all technical systems meet statutory requirements and industry standards, maintaining all associated documentation.
Oversee and direct vendor efforts, ensuring compliance with relevant standards throughout design development, construction, shipping, installation, and acceptance testing.
Manage and maintain project files, technical logs, design documents, bid packages (Scope of Work), schedules, and punch lists while collaborating with WDP&R partners to drive company-wide efficiencies.
Ensure that show systems operate safely by evaluating their interactions with venues, cast, and crew to eliminate risks to guests, performers, and facilities.
Develop and direct technical event budgets and documentation to support project success.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre, Engineering or equivalent with focus on technical design, construction, or production/technical management
Minimum of 10 years entertainment technical management experience
Experience of Managing large-scale short and long-running events
Strong technical skills at least three areas including: audio, electrical, lighting, rigging, scenic construction, special effects, show control, and video
Ability to handle multiple high-pressure projects in fast-paced environment
strong leadership, partnering and strategic planning skills
Highly motivated, requiring minimal direction and follow up
Strong computer skills including basic Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD and industry specific software
