The BD & Strategy function is responsible for strategic initiatives, identifying growth opportunities, new product launches, joint ventures and M&A, as well as supporting the optimization of business performance in EMEA.

Working closely with EMEA business leads, the BD & Strategy team provides invaluable support and direction in driving long term growth and delivering global strategic goals. The department works in close collaboration with Burbank based teams focused on global Strategy & Business Operations.

The team’s activities and accomplishments contribute to the growth and success of TWDC EMEA.

Role description and responsibilities

The Senior Analyst will assist and support the Business Development & Strategy team with the development and delivery of EMEA-wide business strategies and initiatives.

The role requires superior strategic and analytical skills – and the ability to apply these effectively as part of the BD&S team. you will posses the ability to interface with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior corporate executives to local managers in the field, and executives at potential strategic partner companies.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Organic development

  • Support strategic and financial analysis of growth opportunities, ranging from D2C product launches, to optimization of linear channel portfolio, to content windowing across TWDC platforms
  • Working with BD team to engage with regional LOB leads and local Country Managers to build business cases for new opportunities, identifying associated revenue streams, costs and risks
  • Provide advanced business modelling/analysis (including interpretation) of financial data to support business operations
  • Support the analytical review of business plans prepared by local Country Managers to test viability and alignment to overall company goals

Strategy & Planning

  • Analysis of key market trends and competitors to provide insights for senior management to ensure effective decision making
  • Support preparation of the annual strategic business review and 5 year plan
  • Prepare analysis to support content investment strategies across Disney’s various media distribution outlets including theatrical, linear networks, and direct-to-consumer
  • Tracking and analysing key business performance trends to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Support organisational transformation initiatives

Partnerships / Joint Ventures / M&A

  • Assessing potential partnerships to support the growth of Disney+
  • Calculate internal and target company valuations, monitoring of competitor quarterly earnings to identify insights
  • Collaborating with TWDC’s corporate strategy team to evaluate potential M&A opportunities related to businesses managed by Disney Entertainment and ESPN globally and in EMEA

Operations

  • Support to deliver integrated EMEA initiatives as identified by the EMEA President
  • Ongoing support across strategic and operational priorities 

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Experience working in a top tier Management/Strategy consultancy firm within the media sector, and/or experience of working within a media organisation’s central BD/strategy team
  • Strong analytics – ability to think in structured way (both conceptually and analytically) and to perform/ review complex quantitative analysis to inform business decisions
  • Experience in financial and valuation models, and ability to apply financial analysis in solving business problems and integrating financial discipline into operational decision making
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery and ability to support and execute projects to an extremely high standard and to demanding deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to be able to produce accurate reports and to engage with group employees of different countries and of all levels
  • Advanced MS Office skills, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, and ideally some experience with Big Data analytical tools, e.g. Tableau, Alteryx or similar
