About the Role
The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) is looking for a Senior Manager, International Indirect Taxes to join our EMEA Corporate Tax division.
You will support the Principal, International Indirect Taxes in supporting our businesses with their International Indirect Tax affairs to ensure compliance with indirect tax regulations where TWDC and its affiliates have reporting obligations. The role will encompass indirect tax advisory, compliance, VAT audit support, tax legislation updates and TWDC’s technology and tax digitalisation strategy.
This role will require the Senior Manager to act as the Indirect Tax liaison with several of our business and finance heads to ensure that ongoing and new business requirements are appropriately supported from both an advisory and VAT reporting perspective. Disney’s International footprint encompass a number of diverse businesses which include but are not limited to TV and film production, licensing, broadcasting, Disney+ D2C streaming, retail, travel, cruise lines and theme parks. The successful candidate should have industry experience in several of these sectors in order to act as the VAT subject matter expert supporting the relevant businesses.
Disney has operations or makes direct to consumer sales into multiple countries worldwide and so hands on experience of working in a Big 4 or Multinational tax team advising on cross border supplies of goods and services is critical. Disney is also enhancing its relationship with an external managed services provider (MSP) and so experience of partnering with a MSP either from within a Big 4 environment or from a recipient of MSP services would be extremely advantageous.
This role is a hybrid position, working 4 days a week in our Hammersmith office.
What You’ll Do
Business Partnering
Be an effective Business Partner and pro-actively partner with the regional business, finance heads, and Disney legal for agreed lines of business.
Support the Principal, International Indirect Taxes and our businesses to fully understand all commercial initiatives, evaluating business models, effectively structuring and suggesting potential solutions or changes to supply and contractual flows to manage risks, costs and maximise opportunities
Working with other members of Disney’s International finance and business teams considering the local country operations, reviewing commercial initiatives across the region and ensure the operations are structured appropriately and have the correct processes and controls from an indirect tax perspective
Compliance
Working alongside the Principal, Indirect Taxes and the Director International External Reporting to manage and enhance our partnership with an external managed services provider into APAC and LATAM.
Working closely with other members of the VAT, tax, accounting and finance teams globally to ensure that Disney satisfies all its indirect tax compliance obligations.
Leading certain indirect tax authority audits and internal management audits and supporting indirect tax audits globally, where applicable.
Working across our tax, finance and business teams to identify and manage any DST reporting requirements.
Tax Environment Changes
Pro-actively work with advisers, tax authorities and the business to identify current and potential local, EMEA and Global tax legislation changes, determining how most appropriately to manage these changes, then leading the implementation.
Act as an indirect tax subject matter expert on e-invoicing or e-reporting solutions working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
Working closely with the Continuous Process Improvement team and IT on digitalisation of indirect compliance, identifying opportunities for automation, data analytics, out-sourcing to efficiently meet additional compliance requirements in the short, medium and long-term. Experience of Alteryx would be helpful.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Qualified Chartered Tax Advisor or similar tax focused qualification
Extensive, demonstrable experience in indirect tax compliance and advisory experience,
Experience in ERP systems (particularly SAP), Alteryx and Excel is highly desirable as is involvement in systems transformations projects
Experience of working in a senior role in a tax department of a large multinational company is desirable but this is not essential for the right candidate (US based multinational and media sector experience a plus)
- Experience on working globally, covering 2 of either EMEA, APAC and/or LATAM is highly desirable
