About the Role & Program:
The ABC News Medical Unit is a team of journalists, scientists and medical doctors responsible for all health and medical reporting across all ABC News platforms including World News Tonight with David Muir, Good Morning America, Nightline, The View, Tamron Hall, ABC News Digital, ABC News Audio, and our affiliated stations in all 50 states.
The team pitches story ideas, contributes editorial guidance and writes, edits and produces content that is seen by millions of people every day.
This internship is a full-time, six-month commitment in the New York, New York area from June 2026 - January 2027.
What You Will Do:
An internship with the ABC News Medical Unit offers hands-on experience in the office, in the edit room and on the set with the team reporting potentially life changing health news to the nation. Work side-by-side with top health and medical journalists building upon the classroom skills you’ve already obtained by delivering context and content for ABC News on programs like Good Morning America and World News Tonight.
You’ll support a team that keeps the entire ABC News network clear, accurate, and ahead of the curve on every major medical story. We track fast-moving science, spot important trends, and make sure every report lands with the right context and clarity. If selected for this role, you will report to the Executive Producer of the ABC News Medical Unit.
On any given day you might:
Review embargoed studies and write clear, accurate summaries
Craft fast, engaging medical scripts for affiliate stations
Prepare curbside notes that guide network reporting
Review content before publication to confirm accuracy and context
Attend meetings and press conferences on key medical issues
Support daily reporting, longer research projects, and on-set learning to help on-air talent
Required Qualifications & Skills:
A high interest and curiosity for health and medical topics
Strong research and writing skills with the ability to translate complex medical information clearly and accurately
Ability to fact-check quickly and maintain high accuracy under tight deadlines
Good interview skills and the ability to ask informed questions while synthesizing fast-moving information
Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
Interest in broadcast news and willingness to learn news-related workflows
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Familiarity with medical journals, public health agencies, science communication
Experience writing or producing for broadcast or digital news
Prior internship or hands-on experience in health, science, or medical reporting
Education:
Junior or Senior year of college preferred
Major or previous coursework in public health, journalism, data journalism, communication, or another science-related topic preferred
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
Be at least 18 years of age
Possess unrestricted work authorization
Additional Information:
Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
Fully available from Monday - Friday, 9AM-5PM, ET and available during other hours to respond to news requests as needed
Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the New York City metro area
Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work which can include mass transit

The pay rate for this role in New York is $22.50 per hour.
