The Art Director for ABC News plays a pivotal role in bridging the creative vision of producers and editorial staff with the artistic execution of the graphics department. As Art Director, you will lead a team of professional artists, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and delivering high-quality creative content under tight deadlines. This role requires adaptability, accountability, and collaboration to meet the demands of a dynamic news environment. Your leadership will inspire individual and business success while fostering a culture of creativity and innovation.
Responsibilities
Conceive, design, and execute motion graphics for on air and streaming platforms.
Partner with producers and graphic artists to translate editorial ideas into strong visual concepts.
Manage fast paced, quick turnaround graphics production while maintaining high quality standards.
Communicate clearly with the team regarding shifting schedules, deadlines, and priorities.
Lead and support a team of artists, aligning work to department goals and providing guidance and coaching.
Evaluate creative requests and requirements to determine production feasibility and address technical or timing challenges.
Requires weekend availability, with additional coverage on nights and holidays as needed for 24/7 news.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a designer overseeing motion graphics production in a multimedia environment.
Strong information graphics design skills with editorial experience.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, strong work ethic, and interest in a fast paced news environment.
Highly detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
Ability to contribute meaningfully throughout the full design process, from concept through execution.
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively with creative and production teams.
Hands on proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and either Cinema 4D or Maya.
Superior typography skills and strong overall design sensibility.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of graphics software such as XPression and VizRt, and live graphics production experience is a bonus.
Familiar with graphics workflows for Vizrt, Xpression, Adobe Suite.
The hiring range for this position in 7 Hudson Square, NY is $121,000.00 to $162,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
