Job Summary:

ABC News is looking for a manager to be a part of the Editing and Post Production leadership team.  This department is responsible for the workflows, projects and edit team management for ABC News and its various platforms.

A successful candidate is driven, organized and results oriented.  This candidate has a deep working knowledge of short and long form post-production workflows.  The candidate is also unphased in a breaking news environment.  This candidate should also have a working knowledge of digital media content production from camera to edit to finishing; as well as distribution practices on an enterprise level. Avid Media Composer and Avid production Management knowledge is a must, Adobe Premiere knowledge is also necessary for this role.

The candidate must be able to work in a team environment while in constant contact via email, Microsoft Teams, Slack and telephone. This person will need to balance multiple projects and deadlines while rebalancing priorities in real-time as the news cycle and client dictates in a high-pressure environment. This role includes multiple daily interactions with production stakeholders of all levels from all shows and platforms across the news division.  Because this role and team supports a live news environment, night and weekend work will be needed. This person should have the ability to work independently and collaborate with the team and clients interchangeably.

Daily responsibilities of this role include the technical troubleshooting of multiple post-production workflows, assisting a large pool of craft edit talent with daily technical needs and the implementation of new technologies to create process efficiencies whenever possible. The candidate will work closely with our partners in Maintenance & Engineering for future workflow design, implementation, and management. The media management of various storage solutions is also a part of this role. Working knowledge of digital ingest workflows leveraging Telestream’s Vantage transcoding environment is preferred.

Administrative components of this role include payroll duties, the addition/replacement of craft edit staff and light scheduling duties. Creating illustrated workflow documentation for various pieces of the business.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years working in Broadcast News or Post-Production with a focus on video editing.
  • Prior Post-Production operational experience is required.
  • Must be an expert in Avid Media Composer and have experience with Avid Production Management workflows on an enterprise level.
  • Candidate should have strong experience using Avid Access for Media Management and asset troubleshooting purposes.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Media Encoder and associated workflows on an enterprise level preferred.
  • Knowledge of Pro-Tools, DaVinci Resolve, and Baselight preferred.
  • Knowledge of various plug-in packages such as Sapphire, BCC, Nugen, Izotope preferred.
  • Candidate must possess a deep understanding of modern digital media formats, codecs, flat color workflows, audio prep for external mixing and compression/encoding workflows for video and audio.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours and including nights and weekends.
  • Non-Technical Skills: Strong organizational skills, able to meet deadlines and react to changing deadlines, attention to detail and working well under pressure is a must.
  • Work well with a team and independently.
  • BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities 

  • Schedule various post-production personnel. 
  • Research new technology from Camera to Ingest to Post to Delivery.
  • Create new workflows to maximize efficiency across all brands and departments.
  • Guide projects through to completion in accordance with the client’s vision.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot various technical issues.
  • Work with various engineering and sustainment teams to improve ingest, editing and delivery systems.
  • Compose documentation for Production, Operations, Creatives for new workflows and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with fellow team members, vendors and clients alike.
  • Recruit and evaluate emerging edit talent to fit the needs of the News division.


The hiring range for this position in New York City is $104,200 – $143,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
