The team responsible for building ABC News is seeking a Software Engineer Manager. This is a great opportunity to work on a leading news product at ABC News on its mission to inform and inspire. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and growing a team of 8-10 engineers across Android, iOS, Android TV, Fire TV, tvOS, Kepler, and Roku. This team will be responsible for the playback functionality in the ABC News Mobile application on Android and iOS as well as the living room devices across Android TV, Fire TV, tvOS, Kepler, and

Roku. This role requires a deep understanding of mobile platforms and technologies as well as an in-depth understanding of video playback and video ad technologies. The manager of this team will be responsible for collaborating with product, design, analytics, and QA partners on Mobile and TV to establish roadmaps and deliver projects.

In this role, you will also get the opportunity to support the Marvel Unlimited and Star Wars mobile applications on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Oversee development of feature-rich native Android, iOS, tvOS, Android TV, Fire TV, Roku, and Kepler applications
  • Lead and Identify areas for growth within the team processes and develop new systems for collaboration
  • Work with developers to create sustainable, well-architected solutions that are built to last.
  • Manage production issues and solve novel problems.
  • Act as the main point of contact for multiple (2-3) agile teams participating in the full lifecycle of application development
  • Mentor associate, mid-level, and senior team members and support developers through code review and pair programming
  • Create opportunities to learn and teach others and open doors for advancement and growth
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across cross-functional teams to set expectations and navigate dynamic projects

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training

  • 8 Years of technical experience
  • 2 years of technical engineering leadership experience
  • Expert knowledge of Mobile development languages and ecosystems
  • Experience leading a team, including delegating responsibility and balancing competing priorities.
  • Experience integrating with backend systems, web services, and third-party software
  • Experience and knowledge of playback and ad technologies
  • Hold high standards of quality for both the codebases you contribute to and the applications you build.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
  • A growth mindset towards learning, experience mentoring others, and a desire to give and receive feedback.
  • Experience composing and presenting thoughtful and implementable solutions to a variety of stakeholders (technical and non-technical)

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.


The hiring range for this position in Glendale, California is $171,600 to $230,100 per year and in New York City is $179,700 - $241,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
