We have an exciting opportunity for a Strategy & Business Development Associate at Disney Theatrical Group (DTG).  We are looking for a business generalist who will serve all departments within the organization, with a focus on long-term, forward-looking, high-impact initiatives that drive business growth.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will contribute their top-notch analytical and project management skills to a dynamic and ever-evolving portfolio of projects.  In addition to performing research and analysis, they will be deployed frequently to support and facilitate both functional and cross-functional planning needs, including advising senior executives and business partners.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Strategic & Financial Planning: Acting as in-house consultant, partner with various internal departments/business units on analyses surrounding revenue and/or expense optimization, scoping potential productions or business ventures, metrics development and measurement, and strategic planning on the 3-5 year horizon.  Contribute to the development of a robust long range plan (LRP) and annual operating plan (AOP).

  • Decision Support:  Provide problem-structuring and analytical support for major go/no-go and A vs. B vs. C decisions.  These decisions will most often cut across multiple functions and stakeholders and involve frequent interactions with internal business partners at all levels of seniority requiring a high level of project management skill.

  • New business development:  Gather intelligence and analyze relevant/comparable precedents for contemplated new revenue-generating initiatives (e.g. digital ventures, non-theatrical immersive experiences, business line extensions, etc.) and drive toward recommendations regarding such potential new ventures. Lead a deep dive into analysis and viable business plan for emerging immersive experiences.  Contribute to the advancement of existing new business initiatives (e.g. digital captures, theater for young audiences).

  • Global industry insight:  perform research on global live entertainment markets to inform short- and long-range planning efforts for DTG.  Assist in the preparation of periodic reports to inform senior leaders on global live entertainment trends and innovations.  Focus particularly on worldwide markets with nascent/emerging/fast-growing leisure/entertainment (particularly live entertainment) consumption.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3 years+ of work experience, preferably in a business development, consulting (internal or external) or investment banking role in the entertainment/media (or adjacent) industry

  • Advanced presentation skills (PowerPoint, Keynote, Tableau, etc.) required. 

  • Ability to build quantitative (valuation and/or forecasting) models in Excel and create compelling business presentations and reports is paramount

  • Superior research and data gathering/synthesis/analysis skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively across a wide range of business partners and stakeholders

  • Sincere and demonstrated passion for the arts/entertainment/media sectors

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or related field MBA or other advanced degree is a plus

The hiring range for this position in New York is $106,800 to $143,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
