Eyewitness News seeks a Maintenance Engineer – Field Operations. The successful candidate must be a skilled individual adept at the latest technology in Electronic News Gathering to provide seamless, uninterrupted maintenance of equipment in order to ensure quality broadcasts. They should also exhibit an aptitude for an ever-changing news environment, problem-solving, the ability to adjust to meet deadlines, and the ability to work collaboratively with newsroom managers and the assignment desk to provide coverage commensurate with the number one television station in the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and repair of newsgathering equipment in our fleet of 30 news vehicles

  • Troubleshoot unanticipated issues that could arise throughout the day and adapt and prioritize while multi-tasking.  

  • Anticipate equipment maintenance needs and work with the operations managers on procuring equipment.

  • Stay ahead of trends and changes in the advancement of electronic newsgathering equipment.

  • Maintains inventory aimed at keeping ENG operations moving forward

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of experience working in a news environment with the ability to work independently, be adaptable to last-minute changes, and meet strict deadlines.

  • Must have experience working on ENG equipment within live trucks

  • Have experience with RF equipment such as broadcast transmitters, microwave equipment, etc.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with broadcast/multimedia systems and computers in our production environments

  • Thorough knowledge of field equipment including but not limited to Broadcast and/or Digital video cameras, wireless/hardwire mics and IFB, field lights, and supporting equipment.

  • Ability to work various shifts and weekends to support event coverage and location-based productions. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Be a self-starter and able to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, working both independently and as a part of a diverse team.

  • Be project-oriented, organized, and able to show a list of previously executed projects from concept to completion.

  • Be willing to expand their knowledge with emerging broadcast industry concepts/technologies

  • Able to travel domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications

  • A background in broadcast IT or IT experience

Required Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor degree in journalism, communication, or a related field

This role will be covered by the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians – Communication Workers of America - ABC collective bargaining agreement.


The pay rate for this NABET role in New York is $60.025 per hour.
