Job Summary:

ABC News ENG Operations is seeking a skilled Daily Hire Network Maintenance Engineer – Field Operations, able to work in a 24/7/365 Network News Coverage environment. The role supports a wide variety of operational broadcast systems that provide remote video transmission, communications, monitoring and various technical support for the entire line up of award-winning ABC News’ shows and platforms including Good Morning America, World News Tonight With David Muir, GMA3, The View, and Nightline.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience in TV Engineering with an emphasis on field broadcast work
  • A background in broadcast IT or IT experience is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of field equipment including but not limited to Broadcast and/or Digital video cameras, wireless/hardwire mics and IFB, field lights, supporting equipment and various cable types used in broadcast setups (SDI, HDMI, XLR, etc.)
  • Expert-level knowledge necessary to perform maintenance, installation, and occasional board and/or component level repair of broadcast and IT equipment
  • Familiarity working with hardware and broadcast systems that are commonly used across the broadcast television industry including Haivision encoding/decoding, Clearcom LQ systems, Pepwave, Freespeak, VisLink and other RF centric hardware and software equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with broadcast/multimedia systems and computers in our production environments
  • Exceptional collaboration and problem-solving skills
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally
  • Process oriented and able to apply structure to complex problems
  • Ability to work various shifts and weekends Event coverage and location-based production frequently require extended hours, evening or weekend work in a fast-paced 24/7 news environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and operate all remote production ENG equipment:

    - Field Control Room Systems

    - Camera Control Systems

    - Robotic cameras

    - Field audio and video

    - IT audio, video, and communications

    - Encoder/decoder transmission equipment

  • Operate ENG/SNG Satellite truck
  • Assist in system design, purchasing, vetting, constructing and commissioning new technologies in the field

This role will be covered by the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians – Communication Workers of America - ABC collective bargaining agreement.
