Job Summary:

Are you a creative thinker and problem-solver who excels at organizing and managing complex projects? Do you have outstanding communication skills? National Geographic is hiring a Creative Producer to join its Integrated Storytelling team!

In this dynamic role, you will oversee the editorial management of some of our most ambitious initiatives and contribute to the creative development of concepts for Integrated Storytelling projects. You will collaborate with the Editorial Director and colleagues across various editorial disciplines, including photo and text editors, video and digital producers, graphics specialists, and designers. Additionally, you will work closely with television and film producers, social media managers, book editors, communications professionals, and program managers.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage integrated storytelling projects and provide editorial support to program managers on high-priority cross-organization projects.
  • Develop project timetables, budgets, and deliverables; track progress through execution; and provide regular status updates.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop creative concepts for platforms including NationalGeographic.com, our print magazines, and social media, aligning with strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across editorial disciplines to secure buy-in, oversee execution, and ensure timely and budget-compliant completion while maintaining editorial and brand standards.
  • Create and maintain a project management database and streamline workflows, ensuring effective communication across teams, monitoring project updates, flagging deadlines, and identifying collaboration opportunities.
  • Represent the editorial perspective in cross-organization meetings.
  • Develop visually compelling presentation decks showcasing editorial concepts for use in internal meetings.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a media organization.
  • Proven ability to develop compelling creative content aligned with strategic objectives, leveraging experience in at least one core discipline (e.g., text, photography, video) in collaboration with other creatives.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (Airtable or similar) and experience in establishing or streamlining operational processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in creating presentations that bring creative concepts to life.
  • Experience developing content for social media and other media types (video, photo) in a compelling way.
  • Working knowledge of typical creative deliverables and associated production methods for websites, social media platforms, print, and television.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Airtable.
  • Experience as a multiplatform editor, especially in versioning content for digital and social video.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

The hiring range for this position in Washington DC is $63,400 to $85,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
