The Director of Software Engineering for Disney Cruise Line (DCL) Technology will lead the software delivery and sustainment of DCL’s shoreside applications and commercial systems. This role is responsible for driving the technical strategy, execution, and operational excellence across consumer-facing digital platforms, travel trade integrations, and contact center technologies. The Director will also oversee the global Solutions Architecture practice, ensuring scalable, secure, and innovative solutions that support the evolving needs of our Guests, Travel Agents, and Cast Members.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):
Software Delivery Leadership
Lead engineering teams responsible for the development and sustainment of DCL’s website, including pre- and post-booking experiences, reservation management, and guest self-service capabilities.
Oversee delivery of commercial systems supporting direct-to-consumer bookings, travel trade integrations (e.g., GDS, DTA.com), and contact center agent interfaces.
Partner with product management, design, and business stakeholders to define and deliver high-impact digital experiences across web and mobile platforms.
Solutions Architecture
Own the global Solutions Architecture practice for DCL Technology, establishing architectural standards, reusable patterns, and governance models.
Ensure alignment between business goals and technical solutions, with a focus on scalability, flexibility, and modernization.
Guide architectural decisions across internal development and vendor-delivered systems, including Seaware integrations and custom APIs
Operational Excellence
Drive sustainment strategies for critical systems, balancing new development with ongoing support and enhancements.
Implement proactive monitoring, automation, and quality engineering practices to ensure system reliability and performance.
Collaborate with infrastructure and operations teams to support shipboard and shoreside technology needs.
Team & Talent Management
Build and mentor a high-performing engineering organization, including software engineers, architects, and technical leads.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Partner with HR and recruiting to attract and retain top technical talent.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
12+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Proven track record of delivering complex digital platforms at scale.
Deep understanding of modern architecture practices, including cloud-native design, API economy, and microservices.
Experience with travel, hospitality, or eCommerce systems preferred.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Experience with Seaware or similar cruise industry platforms.
Familiarity with Disney Cruise Line operations and guest experience technologies.
Passion for creating magical digital experiences that delight Guests and empower Cast.
