About the Role & Team

 We contribute to the Company’s success by partnering with simulation, analytics, and infrastructure teams in designing and building data pipelines for our foundational data sets related to Ride Control, Show Control, and other Attraction related data. We support downstream teams by providing them with data and data related services. Collaborating across teams, we define technical requirements, identify internal and external data sources, define extract, transform, and load (ETL) strategy, implement and automate data quality checks, and alerting.

As a Data Engineer within Global Engineering & Technology (GE&T) you will help build systems which can handle extensive amounts of data. You will be exposed to all phases of the data pipeline process. From attraction specific use-case refinement, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment to support. In addition, you will partner with other teams in architecture, infrastructure/platform, DevOps, SecOps, QA, data analysts and data science. This Data Engineer will work closely with the senior members of the team to help collaborate with Technical Project Manager(s) and Product Owners on task definition, estimation and refinement of individual projects.

This team builds on cloud-based technology often pushing the edge of what is available and solving for scalability, reliability, resilience and performance. Our engineers have opportunities to work on challenges and problems not found in most companies due to volume, scale, near-real-time and latency requirements.

This is a full-time 18-month Project Hire role.

What You Will Do

  • Configure and deploy data acquisition systems in the attractions and other systems that support our Disney Parks.

  • Design and implement ETL pipelines at attractions and other Disney Park areas to build reliable and scalable data solutions, including data quality checks and validations.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.

  • Improve existing pipelines with optimizations, deprecations, and new technology.

  • Work with collaborators to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

  • Coordinate with multiple departments including Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), Ride Control, Show Control, and Cyber Security on system installations.

  • Solve data issues and design plan for repair including communication with the proper customers prior to changes being implemented.

  • Capability to work odd hours when the job requires it.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of proven experience.

  • Knowledge of designing, building and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines.

  • Good understanding of project management tools, such as JIRA.

  • Knowledge of Data Modeling techniques and Data Warehousing standard methodologies and practices.

  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal presentations and able to communicate optimally at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of data orchestration/ETL tools (iba, Apache NiFi), preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree a plus.
