The General Construction Superintendent serves as the senior field leader responsible for overseeing construction execution across multiple projects, major project scopes, or significant phases of work, providing visible leadership and accountability in safety, quality, scheduling, contractor management, workforce planning, and operational readiness. This role sets the standard for field leadership, ensuring consistent execution throughout assigned areas by actively engaging with Superintendents, contractors, project teams, and stakeholders to promote accountability, remove obstacles, and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and in alignment with BVCC and client expectations. Playing a critical part in protecting the project, the General Superintendent identifies risks early, validates work in place, coordinates resources, monitors contractor performance, and maintains alignment between field operations and project objectives, serving as a key link between operations and leadership to provide guidance, mentorship, and strategic oversight for organizational consistency.

What You Will Do

  • Provide leadership and oversight for multiple projects, major scopes of work, or significant phases of construction.

  • Coordinate all union personnel, equipment, materials, and internal entities necessary to successfully execute project-specific scopes.

  • Maintain a strong field presence and reinforce a culture where safety is the first consideration in all activities.

  • Lead and mentor Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and field leaders while promoting consistency in leadership practices and expectations.

  • Monitor performance, manpower, productivity, sequencing, work planning, and resource allocation.

  • Identify and mitigate safety concerns, quality issues, field conflicts, schedule risks, and operational impacts before they affect project outcomes.

  • Drive accountability for corrective actions, recovery plans, punch list completion, and contractor follow-through.

  • Support and enforce high standards for workmanship, installation quality, and compliance with contract documents and specifications.

  • Support project logistics, site access, work area readiness, material management, and trade coordination.

  • Assist with workforce planning, staffing strategies, and balancing field resources across projects.

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and overall project execution.

  • Consistently delivers quality work with minimal rework and deficiency items.

  • Help prevent schedule delays through early intervention and effective coordination. Interpret and articulate project risk.

  • Maintains strong relationships with stakeholders while protecting project objectives.

  • Successfully mentors and develops Superintendents and field leadership personnel.

  • Promote consistency in execution, communication, and leadership across multiple projects and teams.

  • Builds confidence through visible leadership, sound decision-making, and reliable follow-through.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 10+ Years of direct experience in multi-trade commercial construction environment.

  • Demonstrates expertise in various construction techniques and materials, as well as skill in reading and interpreting design plans and specifications.

  • Proven knowledge and experience of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, and other construction documentation.

  • Knowledge of union trades, jobsite interactions, and trade capabilities.

  • Experience leading outside vendors and subcontractors.

  • Ability to understand the needs of clients and to manage relationships between the owner/operator.

  • Experience with resource loading, crew scheduling, material take-off, and quality production control. Able to leverage technology for organizational performance.

  • Experience reviewing commercial construction bid packages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman's license.

  • OSHA 30-hour course.

  • State issued general contracting or specialty license.

  • Detailed knowledge of building codes.

  • Understanding of earned value reporting.

Education

  • Education High School Degree or equivalent.

  • 2 years of undergraduate schooling in related fields of construction is preferred.

The hiring range for this position in Orlando, FL is $110,000 to $147,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
