Job Summary:

The Walt Disney Studios seeks a skilled Director of Press in Publicity, responsible to develop, create and integrate press strategies across all Studio Theatrical and Streaming titles.  

This includes management of external partners that assist in driving and executing long lead and in-campaign television and digital outreach, talent appearances, junket and premiere exposure, set visits, major national efforts, as well as localized events. Additionally, the role includes screening and local activations and reports to the Senior Vice President, Publicity.

This role requires proactive initiative with minimal direction and the ability to seek out information from various sources and have exceptional follow through. The individual will be expected to communicate clearly with both external partners, film makers, as well as executives.

This is a seven-month Project Hire position from end of Nov 2024 to June 2025 without guarantee of permanent placement.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with SVP, help to execute and lead press strategies across all films including screening plans, fast breaking press and NY and LA talent appearances. 
  • Lead all aspects of national print, top online and National / NY radio press offers for all theatrical and streaming titles.
  • Have a thorough understanding and maintain communication through strong, established relationships with all key publicity partners and media outlets.
  • Function as a subject matter expert and partner with the Film teams to develop movie-specific publicity strategies.
  • Pitch and manage national press for premieres, junkets, conventions and specialty events.
  • Conduct and drive publicity and marketing meetings for campaign planning and share updates pertaining to press across the department.
  • Identify and manage critics and editorial press invites to screenings to secure coverage and reviews.
  • Cover talent interviews for NY events and appearances.
  • Supervise and collate all content placements and press blasts for the Publicity Department, including theatrical and streaming.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in the entertainment industry, in theatrical and/or streaming publicity
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft-based software: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Strong organization and communication skills are required to interface effectively with internal and external parties.
  • Experience interfacing and collaborating with high level executives, talent and filmmakers.


The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $143,000 to $192,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
