Job Summary:

The GM of Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), The Walt Disney Company APAC will dual report to the President, TWDC APAC and the President, Direct-to-Consumer, Disney Entertainment. 

Based in either Tokyo or Seoul, the individual is a key member of both the APAC leadership team as well as the Direct-to-Consumer global leadership team.

The GM is responsible for advancing the DTC APAC business, leading strategies and teams that drive business growth with direct accountability of APAC DTC P&L, as well as managing the significant day-to-day operations of the DTC business.

The executive upholds Disney’s commitment to quality entertainment and the various consumers we serve while driving profitability across the DTC business and prioritizing an inclusive culture that embraces change and innovation.

The GM will have a clear vision for the future of APAC DTC with the capability of communicating and executing that vision via hands-on leadership, optimism, strategic risk-taking and focused metrics of success.   He or she is a creative thinker who generates new ideas and understands how to maximize brands and resources to achieve market leadership. This includes developing strategies which evolve Disney brands and franchises where consumers can expect high quality, high impact entertainment and content.

Responsibilities:

The GM, Direct to Consumer APAC will drive direct-to-consumer subscriptions and lead the P&L across APAC and will be expected to:

  • Develop and implement a strategic operating plan that supports the organization’s vision and goals and long-term strategy for Disney+ APAC.
  • Translate the strategic plan into operational goals and ensure teams across APAC are aligned to deliver and modify the plan as required in response to changes in internal and external factors.
  • Establish and track against clear goals, ensuring timely feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues in a prompt manner.
  • Build a world-class marketing, subscriber acquisition, customer management, operations and DTC content team to deliver on ambitious goals.
  • Lead a team of executives including DTC GM’s of APAC territories, Analytics & Insights, Programming, Marketing, Partnerships. Recruit, develop, and retain a strong leadership team; provide guidance and coaching to maximize their performance and accelerate their professional growth.
  • Lead a high-performing organization including a vast and diverse team of talent across many roles and disciplines.
  • Drive business and key partnerships in an effort to further growth goals. 
  • Foster close collaboration with local, regional (APAC), global stakeholders. 
  • Execute all corporate policies/objectives while maintaining the highest level of ethics and industry standards.
  • Establish and maintain an innovative and highly collaborative culture that promotes idea generation, open communication, respect for others and excellence.
  • Create an inclusive, collaborative, fun and stimulating work environment.
  • Collaborate with other parts of the Walt Disney company worldwide to advance APAC DTC business.

Basic Qualifications Required:

  • Proven highly strategic leader in D2C businesses. Excellent record of achievement with proven experience as a GM, P&L leader in APAC with deep understanding of the various markets, and strong external APAC network in media and entertainment.
  • Significant senior leadership experience, managing leaders of leaders, that has a participative approach that fosters collaboration and innovation.  Extensive experience leading a diverse group of multi-functions in a large organization across a matrix environment.
  • Ability to recognize, create and communicate priorities, strategies, market opportunities and challenges to drive growth and performance improvement.
  • Balance of strategic and operational skills.  Skilled in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating a wide variety of activities; developing, implementing and communicating policies and procedures for a large, multi-country organization.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Phenomenal communication skills and articulation ability, with a proven ability in engaging effectively with business partners and diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
  • Adaptable and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving work environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain integrity, credibility, be a sensible risk-taker, practice proactive leadership, accountable, adaptable, be a forward-thinker, and have a strategic and agile mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multi-national company experience and have worked in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Deep experience in business partnering with senior business leaders in the APAC market (especially in North Asia).
  • Track record of consistently hitting / over delivering targets
  • Fluent in English and Japanese preferred
