Overview
The Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy, leads the Global Public Policy team in the Global Legal, Privacy and Public Policy organization. The SVP is responsible for understanding the public policy landscape, assessing its potential impacts on Disney businesses and proactively developing responsible business practices and advocacy strategies in key areas including media and technology policy, human rights, environmental sustainability, supply chain practices, product safety, consumer protection and advertising, and child online safety. This senior leadership position is also responsible for leading the team that develops and executes a cohesive strategy for ESG reporting and disclosures, and establishes and oversees the company’s environmental sustainability goals and programs.
Key Responsibilities
The SVP, Global Public Policy leads and provides strategic direction to teams of subject matter experts responsible for the following functions
Policy Development and Business Integration
Understand the public policy landscape relevant to the company and develop strategies across key areas including media and technology policy, human rights, environmental sustainability, responsible supply chain practices, product safety, consumer protection and advertising, and child online safety
Anticipate emerging regulations, laws and enforcement actions across the jurisdictions in which Disney operates, assess the potential business impacts of changes in the regulatory environment and proactively identify strategies to assist Disney businesses in effectively managing the changes
Establish responsible business practices, policies, targets and goals as needed, consistent with the company’s commitments and reputation, drive adoption of those practices and support compliance across the company.
Develop policy positions, narratives, and associated fact bases to support advocacy efforts globally
ESG Strategy and Reporting
Develop and execute cohesive strategies for ESG reporting and disclosures including voluntary disclosures (e.g., Impact.Disney website, Sustainability and Social Impact Report, CDP) and mandatory non-financial reporting (e.g., EU CSRD, emissions reporting)
Understand the ESG rating agency landscape and develop strategies for supporting ratings performance
Environmental Sustainability
Develop and maintain systems and processes for the collection, management, and analysis of environmental data enterprise-wide to support voluntary and mandatory reporting, measurement of the company’s progress towards its environmental goals and sustainability decision making
Conduct integrated energy management modeling and planning for the enterprise; lead procurement and execution of corporate energy instruments used to meet sustainability goals (e.g., Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPA), Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), and Nature-based Climate Solutions (NCS)).
Lead or support implementation of key sustainability efforts including climate risk assessments, environmental impact assessments of construction projects and other business activities, sustainable content production practices, employee commuting and traffic demand management programs
Develop nature strategy and manage Disney Conservation Fund and related activities
Job Requirements
20+ years of experience in strategic policy roles in government, corporate or professional services settings
JD, advanced degree in related public policy or subject matter field or a combination of equivalent skills experience, and education required
Thorough understanding of key global policy issues in related fields, such as media and technology policy, corporate governance, Intellectual property, environment and human rights
Thorough understanding of legal, public affairs, and government relations considerations in the policy process and business practices, laws and governmental regulatory systems
Exceptional ability to analyze complex issues and develop creative solutions
Exceptional collaboration and oral and written communication skills
The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $309,800 to $415,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
